Kazuto Ioka Outlasts Akira Yaegashi In A War

Regardless of what occurs in the next 10 or so days, Kazuto Ioka can still take tremendous pride in winning the first-ever all-Japan title unification bout.

A strong finish was the difference in a nip-and-tuck affair, as Ioka managed to retain his unbeaten record with a close unanimous decision over countryman Akira Yaegashi in their 12-round war Wednesday evening in Osaka, Japan.

Official scorecards were 115-113 (twice) and 115-114 for Ioka, who makes the third defense of his WBC title in addition to adding the WBA strap to his collection.

Yaegashi was the underdog coming in but went balls to the wall from the opening bell. Ioka struggled to establish a rhythm, which played perfectly into Yaegashi’s hands as he applied pressure throughout the first and second round.

Ioka managed to get his offensive attack going in the third round and in the truest form of effective aggression. The moment Ioka found a home for his power shots, Yaegashi’s left eye began to rapidly swell shut. The momentum carried over into the fourth as Ioka punched his way back into the fight.

WBC open scoring revealed that all three judges had the fight dead even at 38-38 through four rounds. Yaegashi, nearly unable to see out of his left eye, seemed disinterested in winning a decision at this point and began to go for broke.

The result was his best offensive output since the opening round, including a right uppercut that put Ioka on the defensive. The crowd rallied behind the underdog, with chants of “AKIRA” filling the venue.

Ioka rallied back in the sixth, using his jab as a range finder for his right hand. For the first of two consecutive rounds, time was called to allow the ringside physician to examine Yaegashi’s eye – and more importantly his vision. On each occasion, Yaegashi passed the unofficial eye test, allowing action to resume.

The frequent visits from the doctor instilled a sense of urgency in Yaegashi, who ramped up the attack in the middle rounds. The attack was right on time, as he fell behind on two of the three scorecards through eight rounds.

Both fighters had their share of moments in a furiously paced ninth round. Ioka scored with an uppercut, but a Yaegashi right hand stunned the unbeaten fighter late in the round. As telling a blow as it was, the damage was minimal and actually inspired Ioka to pick up the pace down the stretch.

As the rounds reached double digits, both fighters somehow seemed more energetic. The end result was the sensational war that most believed would be the case – or hoped for, at the very least. Neither fighter gave an inch, leaving the judges to split the rounds down the stretch.

The crowd continued to rally behind the wounded Yaegashi, whose left eye somehow managed to improve as the fight went on. Still, Ioka left nothing to chance, going all in during the championship rounds. The strategy proved sound, surging ahead in the boxing equivalent of a photo finish once all was said and done.

The final scoring was close but unanimous in favor of Ioka, who advances to 10-0 (6KO). The win marked Ioka’s third successful defense of the title he won with an eye-catching 5th round knockout of Oleydong Sithsamerchai last February.

Even more noteworthy is his accomplishment on Wednesday evening, a watershed moment for the Japanese boxing scene. Sadly, the feat will be short-lived. Pre-fight contract stipulations called for the winner – in this case, Ioka – to vacate at least one of the belts within the next ten days.

Despite the loss, Yaegashi’s stock skyrockets. The 29-year old has now been involved in back-to-back wars, taking this fight eight months after his sensational 10th round knockout of Pornsawat Porpramook in what was hailed by many as the 2011 Fight of the Year.

The 12-round war with Ioka – while a terrific battle – didn’t quite carry the same feel by fight’s end. However, it entertained throughout, not to mention that Yaegashi was forced to fight with one eye from the third round onward. That he even lasted the distance is miraculous.

However, it wasn’t enough to surge ahead on the scorecards. As a result, Yaegashi’s strawweight title reign is one-and-done.

There’s a chance he finds himself right back in line should Ioka choose to vacate the WBA belt and continue on with his WBC reign. Whatever happens in the near future and beyond, both fighters continue to prove themselves as must-watch viewing.

Sukses Daud Cino Yordan meng-KO Lorenzo Villanueva mengantar dia jadi juara dunia kelas bulu versi badan tinju dunia IBO.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Wins Middleweight Title in El Paso Fight

Julio César Chávez, Jr. defeated Andy Lee for the World Boxing Council’s middleweight title in El Paso Saturday evening, in a fight that had raised security concerns after federal investigators warned rival Mexican drug gangs may show up.
Chávez, now 46-0-1 with 32 knockouts, was declared winner during the seventh round. Lee is now 28-2.
The fight brought in 13,467 fans to the University of Texas-El Paso’s Sun Bowl stadium.
Lee hails from Limerick, Ireland. Chávez, whose father is a retired professional boxer, is from Sinaloa, Mexico.
Traditional Mexican music blared as the fans fired themselves up for the match.
“Go Chávez! Go Chávez!” yelled Angelica Esparza as she and her large family entered the Sun Bowl.
El Paso mayor John Cook welcomed the crowd before he performed the National Anthem by singing and playing the guitar.
Both Chávez and Lee arrived at the stadium in stretch Hummer limousines. They both entered the area with serious, confident-looking demeanors.
“During the first round, my legs were bothering me,” said Chávez, who nevertheless took ownership of the ring.
Many were thrilled to have El Paso host the championship and to see a Mexican man up for a second-run at winning the WBC middleweight title.
“Nothing like this has ever happened! Nothing this big, especially someone who (is) Hispanic like César Chavez,” said Maggie Garcia of El Paso.
The match brought an international audience. Not only was it televised into millions of homes around the world, but many fans also crossed from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, just across the border from El Paso.
Enrique López, who studies at the university and commutes from Juárez, waved a Mexican flag in the air with his friends in the stands. Some Irish flags were also scattered throughout the Sun Bowl.
“He’s the son of a legend, Julio César Chávez.” López said. “I followed him since I was little.”
López had anticipating the match for months. When the University of Texas temporarily called off the fight in April over Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa’s security concerns, López was among the many El Paso fans left furious.
Cigarroa feared the rival Juárez and Sinaloa drug cartels would attend the match, raising the possibility of violence.
But López wasn’t worried.
“I was pretty upset. I actually came to the (press) conference, and I was yelling: ‘please keep the fight!’”
The stadium is about 500 yards from the U.S.-Mexico border.
“I know there’s a lot of security, it’s not a big deal,” said spectator José Aguino.
Yet Chávez supporter Garcia wasn’t entirely certain of her safety.
“I am a little worried. You never know,” Garcia said.
The university’s police department ran security. Many other law enforcement agencies also provided heavy patrol.
“It’s not uncommon for special events, like the Sun Bowl, stadium concerts we have here, boxing matches, events like that, to have this type of security. It’s not just El Paso, it’s large cities with large events,” said Veronqiue Masterson, spokeswoman for the university.
Spectators were inspected at the door by a wand and were patted down. No alcohol was sold, despite Mexican beer maker Tecate being a sponsor of the event.
Now Chávez will face off lineal middleweight champion Sergio Martínez for the WBC championship on September 15th in Las Vegas.
“It’s (going to be) hard fight for Sergio,” Lee said after the match.
Chávez looks forward to going up against Martínez and he’s proud of his performance on Saturday.
“It’s a dream and I am living the dream,” said Chávez in a press conference following the match. “Everything is a gift for my dad,” concluded Chávez, in honor of Father’s Day.
Lee was not present at the press conference.
Fox News Latino reached out to the University of Texas-El Paso public information office on Saturday for comment of any security issues that may have occurred during the event. They did not immediately respond.

Chavez gets TKO win; Sergio Martinez next up?

SAN DIEGO, June 17, 2012 – Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. made sure he didn’t meet the same fate as Manny Pacquiao last week at the hands of the judges.
Chavez Jr. notched a decisive win with a TKO victory in the seventh round over Irish boxer Andy Lee. Chavez remains undefeated at 46-0. In winning,
Perhaps even more important, Chavez may have finally won the respect of many boxing fans who felt he hadn’t lived up to the greatness promised by his physical tools and the pedigree bestowed by his father, the four time champion Julio Caesar Chavez. It was an impressive, dominating performance over Lee, who was expected to present more of a challenge.
Lee started off showing great energy, with a sharp effective jab that kept Chavez from getting very close in the first two rounds. But Lee seemed to run out of steam fast. Chavez took a few sharp blows. But he seemed unaffected and kept pressing forward. Once Chavez realized Lee wasn’t able to seriously hurt him, he started taking it to Lee at will. Chavez closed the ring off, backing Lee up and shortening the distance between them so that Lee could not launch effective punches.

Meanwhile, Chavez was able to use his more compact, bulkier build to advantage, getting in close and landing vicious power shots. At the halfway point of the 12 round fight, it became clear that Lee would probably not last to the end. It only took one more round for Chavez to end things. He walloped Lee with several hard combinations. It was an easy call for referee Laurence Cole to stop the fight, and absolutely the correct decision.

Sanchez topples Guevara at Border Explosion

Victor Sanchez of Houston pulled off a shocker at Saturday's Border Explosion boxing show at McAllen Convention Center.
Sanchez (3-3-1) defeated previously unbeaten Brownsville super bantamweight Jerry "Chicanito" Guevara (7-1, five KOs) in the co-main event of the Golden Boy and Julio Marines presentation was broadcast live internationally on Telefutura's Solo Boxeo. Sanchez won on a six-round unanimous decision over the favored Brownsville fighter, who was coming back after an eight-month layoff from a left ankle and heel injury.
"This feels great," Sanchez said. "It does a lot for my career because he (Guevara) is a good fighter."
Guervara took control of the fight in the first round. He sent Sanchez to the canvas during the opening round. Guervara withstood a solid punch to the face by Sanchez during the third round, and Sanchez appeared to win the fourth round. It was Guevara whose knees dropped to the canvas during the fifth and again in the sixth as the Houston fighter recorded his improbable victory.
In the late scheduled 10-round main event, lightweight and Golden Boy prospect Carlos Molina of Rosemead, Calif., battled Marcos Leonardo Jimenez of the Dominican Republic in the main event. Molina took a 16-0-1 record with seven KOs into the bout.

Pacquiao Tak Sesali Kekalahannya

Kalah Kontroversial, Pacquiao Inginkan Rematch

Kemenangan Timothy Bradley atas Manny Pacquiao dinilai kontroversi.

Bradley sukses mencuri sabuk juara kelas welter versi WBO, usai menang angka atas Manny Pacquiao di MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Sabtu (9/6/2012) malam tadi waktu setempat.

Kejutan, Bradley Akhiri Hegemoni Pacquiao

Kejutan besar terjadi panggung tinju dunia.

Dominasi Pacman terus berlanjut hingga memasuki ronde keenam.

Petinju berjuluk ‘The People Champ’ ini terlihat kesulitan menembus kokohnya pertahanan Bradley.

Memasuki dua ronde terakhir, kedua petinju terus memperagakan jual beli pukulan.
