Kell Brook vs. Diego Chaves Fight Looms, Eddie Hearn Seeks Tim Bradley Clash

Kell Brook has reportedly agreed terms on a fight with Diego Chaves later this year but could yet go up against Timothy Bradley in a unification bout should the chance materialise. The Brit is on the lookout for his third fight of 2015 after comprehensive wins against Jo Jo Dan and Frankie Gavin, and it seems as though a date with Chaves has been agreed. That’s according to Yvon Michel of GYM, a promoter for Kevin Bizier, who claims the Argentine has walked away from a potential fight with Bizier to take on Brook.
“The Argentine Diego Chaves had initially agreed to fight Bizier, but instead he decided to fight directly for the belt by facing Brook,” said Michel, per Carlos Boogs of BoxingScene.com. But according to Brook’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, while a deal with Chaves could be done, at the moment it’s more of a contingency plan should a bout with Bradley not come off, per Sky Sports: Kell Brook is due to fight on October 24 in Sheffield. We had a very interesting meeting with Bob Arum in London and we really want to make the Tim Bradley fight. It's a fight that's such a great fight. I rate Tim Bradley as one of the very best welterweights in the world, as I do Kell. We've also agreed terms with Diego Chaves if we want that fight. It's a tough fight. It's one that Kell might not get as much credit but you've got a guy coming off a draw with Bradley. People ask who he is but trust me, this is a tough fight.
However, boxing expert The Guru doesn’t rate the 29-year-old—who was disqualified in a bout against Brandon Rios before taking on Bradley—highly: Bradley has the better pedigree, and after fighting opponents who weren't in his class, Brook could do with a step up in quality. The American is a worthy opponent and holds the WBO welterweight belt after beating Jesse Vargas via unanimous decision in June; Floyd Mayweather was stripped of the belt in July.
It would make for an entertaining matchup. Bradley’s in-ring nous, smart footwork and swift counter-punching would cause Brook problems, but the Brit has showcased signs that he’s a much more comprehensive fighter in recent outings and has the power to cause plenty of men in the division major concerns. That’s the fight that will excite boxing fans, and the words from Hearn suggest there has been some encouragement that it’ll get made. Should Brook emerge victorious from that one, it'll be the platform for some lucrative fights down the line for the Brit.
